Software Defined Networking is new emerging area of research. It is replacing current inflexible and complex networks with innovative and agile networks but the pace of replacement has been slow. In SDN they have decoupled the control and data plane. Openflow is most used protocol needed for communication between control and data plane. The main concern about slow adoption of SDN is security features provided by SDN Switches. Firewall is necessary part of current networks. You cannot think of secure network without using firewall. Already layer 2 and stateless firewalls are available in SDN but the main issue is that can we implement stateful firewall that keeps connection tracking information. In this paper we are implementing SDN stateful firewall using POX Controller. We tested our stateful firewall on mininet emulator as well as real hardware.
