In this study, the effect of the silver ions which are bonded activated carbons gathered from the wild chestnut shells with chemical reduction method is examined. Activated carbons were obtained from wastes of wild chestnut shells through methods of chemical activation with ZnCl2 in N2 atmosphere and characteristics were determined. Adsorption capacity of activated carbons was demonstrated with BET and iodine number. Experiments were carried out at different carbonisation temperatures (600–800 °C), impregnation time (8–24 h) and impregnation ratio (0.25–1), which had a significant effect on the pore structure and surface area of the carbon. The aim of the conducted study is to research the physicochemical properties of activated carbons and materials with AgNO3. Silver nitrate (AgNO3) was added to activated carbons that were obtained through chemical reduction.
