The massive proliferation of traditional information and communication technologies (ICT) hardware and software into the heart of industrial control systems (ICSs) has given birth to a unique technological ecosystem. As a result, modern ICSs deliver advanced services and features, and facilitate the implementation of novel infrastructural paradigms such as the smart grid. Nevertheless, this technological advancement also brings new design challenges that must account for sophisticated cyber-physical attacks.
