DSTM (Dual Stack Transition Mechanism) is an IPv4 to IPv6 transition mechanism for a dominant IPv6 network. The objective of DSTM is to provide IPv6 hosts in a dominant IPv6 network the capability to connect to legacy IPv4 hosts. This paper analyzes the advantages of DSTM and evaluates its characteristics including the current implementation status, performance, scalability, interoperability and portability. Experimental results show that DSTM is a very light-weight transition mechanism.
