The previous chapter’s ten explanations for high crime places reveal pieces of a larger answer. That answer is place management: how owners and operators control activities within their locations. We define place managers as the people who operate proprietary places. We then describe what they do and their four functions. Then we show how place management unifies the ten explanations we discussed in the previous chapter. And we examine specific actions place managers can take to fight crime, and the evidence showing these actions work.
