Acceptance of voice search technology in various electronic devices has grown in the past few years. With this increasing popularity, the research on the adoption factors and motivations of speech recognition technology has also increased. However, there has been little focus on the deterrents to its adoption. Using the Innovation Resistance Theory, this research aims to (i) identify the barriers to adopting speech recognition technology and (ii) verify their validity by empirically testing their relationship with the resistance to speech recognition technology. The survey data (N= 213) was collected from OTT platforms’ users and analyzed using exploratory factor analysis and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). The results identified the barriers responsible for the resistance to voice search technology in OTT platforms. The barriers were empirically validated, and it was found that value, tradition and image barriers are the key resistance factors in the adoption of voice search technology.
