Soil pollution is one of the pressing issues in agriculture which has drastic effects on cultivated plants and other biotic components of the managed ecosystem. The problem emerges as a result of intensive human beings’ activities which include unbalanced use of pesticides and fertilizers, irrigation, industrial activities, and improper waste management processes. The presence of pollutants (e.g., heavy metals, excessive concentration of salt, agrochemicals) disturbs all the levels of an ecosystem. To ameliorate the toxic effect of soil pollutants, sustainable approaches for enhancing its fertility and capacity to serve as an ideal environment for flora and fauna are needed.
