A wide range of applications are currently supported by Machine Type Communications (MTC) and this include smart metering, surveillance, industry automation, eHealth, infrastructure management, etc. In order for MTC to effectively support these applications, there is need for reliable data exchange among the MTC devices (MTCDs) and MTC servers. During these data exchanges, generally small amounts of data is transmitted from a large number of MTCDs leading to massive MTC (mMTC). Although data size is small, because a large number of MTCDs try to access the same channel for communication in cellular networks, MTCDs contend for radio resources and this leads to not only an overload problem, but also delays in accessing the channel and high energy consumption.
