This paper presents an energy efficient clustering algorithm for multi-hop (EECA-Mhop) wireless sensor network with the objective of reducing energy consumption within the wireless sensor network to make the sensor network green and prolong the lifetime of the network. In Single hop communication cluster-heads located far from the base station spend more energy in transmitting data to the base station and therefore they exhaust much faster than other cluster heads in the network. Therefore the sensor nodes in the farthest region from base station become inactive prematurely which ultimately leads to non-uniform network coverage. In our proposed algorithm we follow multi-hop communication through some resource privileged Gateway nodes.
