Urbanization elevates traffic congestion and it has a great impact on the smooth mobility of the citizens. To combat the traffic congestion problem, the concept of multimodal transportation can be used effectively which encourages the citizens to avail of different public transport or combination of public and private transport to reach their destination rather than using a dedicated personal car. Therefore, this paper introduces a multimodal transportation system that can be used as a prototype to implement the concept of multimode transport in smart cities. The proposed system has several components, out of which route recommendation service is proposed and discussed in detail.
