This paper describes both edible plants and non-food uses of plants of Korkut town (Muş, East Anatolia-Turkey) and its villages. The study was carried out during 2001-2003 and 121 taxa in 91 genera belonging to 35 families were determined from collected specimens used for different purposes by local people. In Korkut town and its villages, 65 plant taxa consumed as food and 58 taxa used for medicinal purposes were determined. Moreover different species used for ornamentation, dying, cleaning, chewing, heating, making rush mat, shelter and animal food etc. were reported in the present study. 30 of them were reported for the first time in this study. The different way of utilization and application of 57 taxa known up to date were also reported for the first time in the present study. Interesting ways of use of plant parts like molasses (named by the local people as Gezo) produced from oak tree leaves were first reported in this study. 39 taxa collected were used more than one purpose, each of
17 taxa was used medicinal treatment for more than one different illness. In addition to that some different taxa were used for the same purpose.
The data were collected from 35 people of whom 19 were women and 16 were men. Most of 19 women are uneducated, while 11 of males have graduated from primary school, one has 1 secondary school degree and one has high school degree, but other 3 males are uneducated. All of females are house wives. 14 men are farmers and 2 men are state officers.
