In this article, the author discusses the use of blue-light filtering ophthalmic lenses as sunlight comprises of radiation from the electromagnetic spectrum, extending from the longer wavelengths of the ultraviolet (UV). It mentions macular pigments, lutein and zeaxanthin, are also proposed to impart retinoprotection by absorbing short-wavelength visible light and increased use of light emitting diodes (LEDs) and compact fluorescent lamps.
