Studies were carried out on the characterization and glyceride composition of Cassia fistula seed oil. It was observed that Cassia fistula seed grown under different soil and climatic conditions of Bangladesh, contained 3% golden coloured oil. The oil was fractionated into mono, di, and triglycerides by silicic acid column chromatography. The triglycerides varied from 89.16% to 91.01%, diglycerides from 2.51% to 3.32% and monoglycerides from 0.91% to 0.98% depending on the areas from which the seeds were collected. Fractionation of lipids extracted by the Bligh and Dyer method into three major lipid groups neutral lipids, glycolipids and phospholipids was carried out by silicic acid column chromatography. The neutral lipids were accounted for over 89.80% of the total weight of the lipid employed.
