Mankind’s quest for good governance has yielded all forms of political organisations in different epochs in the political history of the world. This ranges from different shades of authoritarianism to democracy and socialism. In modern times, democracy is seen as being effective in safeguarding the fundamental human rights of citizens, 1 although the evidence for this assertion is mixed. 2 With the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe, democracy is considered unparalleled to any form of government and is believed to have brought an end to the history of the world as far as political organisations are concerned.
