As the development of the Internet of Things, various mobile devices and solutions have been emerged. This calls for the edge computing technology, which processes data on device-side instead of cloud-side. However, the limited power capacity of mobile devices becomes the bottleneck of edge computing. In this paper, we first discuss the energy consuming model and analysis the trade-off problem. Then, a systematic approach that can balance the power consumption between computation and communication and minimize the total consumed energy for IoT mobile devices is proposed. We also conducted real measurement to evaluate the proposed scheme. The results show that the method we propose can always find the most energy-efficient options, and saves the battery of devices.
