简介
Traditional Innovation Management with its prevailing approach is observed more frequently to fail producing valuable and marketable products and services. However, companies are challenged to develop and maintain their competitive advantage due to the increasing international competition. Since especially the early stages of Innovation Management incorporate knowledge-intensive and weakly-structured processes, new approaches need to be considered. Adaptive Case Management, still a young discipline, was specifically designed to manage unpredictable work. It is investigated how Innovation Management and Adaptive Case Management can be harmonized into a new and valuable approach, both from a conceptional and technological perspective. Following a Design Science Research Methodology, the theoretical foundations are examined first. Subsequently, a new model for Adaptive Innovation Management is derived, including shared characteristics of Innovation Management and Adaptive Case Management. Based on the theoretical insights, a new IT tool is introduced. It is shown that both concepts can be aligned well with each other, if certain requirements are fulfilled. Furthermore, practical evidence and relevance for the issue of Innovation Management, as well as the proposed IT tool, is shown by a case study at a large globally acting company.
