An optoelectronic parallel computing system called the Optical Transposed Interconnection Mesh (OTIS-Mesh) is a parallel computing system where electronic interconnect links are used to interconnect processing elements when the communication distance between processors is short, but in case of large communication distance optical links are used. A graph theory approach called the Extended Dominating Node (EDN) defines a set of nodes (dominating nodes) that is capable to deliver a message to all other processors in a group within a single message-passing step. Collective communication in parallel and distributed systems involves two or more processors calling the same operation. Collective communication operations are widely used in various applications such as graphs, sorting and image processing.
