Abstract
ERP selection decision is becoming complicated as the stateof-the-art holistic landscape of ERP technology is rapidly changing with the advent of social media (S), mobility (M), analytics (A) and cloud computing (C). Now-a-days OEMs are switching to ‘As-Service’ERP models and shelving conventional ‘On-Premise’ERP hosting practices. Since, ERP technology selection is a critical investment decision and crucial for an OEM to stay competitive, technological sustainability through SMAC should be a paramount consideration in the selection process besides relating ERP solutions to OEM’s business and IT strategies and functions. Our work attempts to lay down a comprehensive 4-stage strategic decision making framework ‘E4-arrowhead’for systematic selection of a suitable ERP system based on a 5-criteria-category (Functionality, Technology, TCO, Vendor and Software Quality) weighted by AHP. A collection of subcriteria common in OEMs has been derived for peer-to-peer comparison of ERP system solutions. The selection framework considered Social Networking, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud computing (SMAC) for prioritizing sustainability of various solution options. Primarily, the overall company objectives translated to BSCs, are linked to ERP selection criteria culminating in higher model maturity and better applicability in aggressive pursuit of company’s strategic goals. A business case demonstrates superiority of SMACERP besides strategic fit and functional integration of ERP solution in Indian Automotive OEM in pursuit of business excellence.
