In the era of digital transformation, cybersecurity has become a critical issue for everyone. Cyber threats refer to potential dangers and risks that can compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital systems, networks, and data. These threats can come from various sources, such as malware, phishing attacks, DDoS attacks, ransomware, and social engineering tactics. This research proposal aims to investigate the tactics and motivations of cyber threat actors in the current cyber security landscape. To achieve this objective, the following goals have been identified: (1) conduct a review of existing literature on cyber threat actors and their tactics and motivations; (2) identify different types of cyber threat actors, including nation-states, criminal organizations, and hacktivists; (3) analyze tactics used by cyber threat actors such as social engineering, malware, and ransomware; (4) examine motivations of cyber threat actors, such as financial gain, espionage, and political influence; and (5) provide recommendations for organizations and governments on countering threats posed by cyber threat actors.
