Šarūnas2 is a tall man with bushy eyebrows. Although only in his mid-thirties he is already progressively balding. He keeps an unshaved look, which visually adds a certain roughness to his otherwise gentle demeanour. Šarūnas comes from the northern part of Lithuania. He is a bachelor, has never married and has no children. Being a man of few words, Šarūnas approaches social interaction with a certain caution. During our acquaintance I make a few attempts to get him to go with me to the city for dinner or a beer. Once in a brave moment I suggest we go clubbing. It is all in vain. He declines subtly under the excuse that he does not have the proper wardrobe for such excursions. Yet I sense that this is more than a question about his clothes; Šarūnas does not seem comfortable with the mere idea of being out in the city or in restaurants or bars. The vibrant city life is not his scene, he feels too estranged.
