Lifetime is one of the major quality measures in the automotive industry. For optimizing the
costs, nearly all the vehicle components are designed to survive a certain time and usage.
Over the last decades, this has been optimized perfectly. In the transition to the electric
vehicles, many parameters do change now. In this paper we discuss not only the lifetime of
the new power electronics, but we also review the vehicle requirements, since both, driving
and charging do affect the component's lifetime–but quite differently.
