The high-end server manufacturing-assembly process is characterized by long cycle times and extensively customized product assemblies. In order to be responsive to customer orders while concurrently lowering inventory holding costs, the fabrication-fulfillment method is ideal for this domain. The focus of this research is on the fabrication phase, where commodities (eg memory cards and multiplexers) are procured and tested. This paper presents the development of the Fabrication Kit Tool (FKT), which is designed to help a fabrication technician obtain a kit based on the availability of untested commodities. FKT also has the ability to identify alternate commodities when the requested commodities are unavailable. This is achieved through a neural network module. By implementing the FKT, it is expected to reduce the non-valued added steps of identifying and locating parts in the fabrication process.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
