Biomaterials are defined as artificial or natural materials that are used to restore and replace
the biological structure to recover its form and function in order to improve the quality and
longevity of human life. Biomaterials have been used for partial or complete replacement of
different parts of the human body such as orthopaedic replacement implants (hip, elbow,
shoulder and knee), artificial valves of heart, stents in blood vessels, dental prosthetic and
orthodontic implants [1, 2].
