An electrochemical impedance study of Alloy-22 in NaCl brine at elevated temperature: II. Reaction mechanism analysis

DD Macdonald, A Sun, N Priyantha… - Journal of …, 2004 - Elsevier
The development of deterministic models for predicting the accumulation of corrosion
damage to high level nuclear waste (HLNW) canisters requires the acquisition of values for
various model parameters. In the present work, we describe the extraction of values for
various parameters in the point defect model (PDM) for the growth of passive films on Alloy-
22, from electrochemical impedance data for this alloy measured in saturated NaCl brine
(6.2 m, m= molkg− 1) at 80° C, as described in Part I. The barrier layer of the passive film on …

An electrochemical impedance study of Alloy 22 in NaCl brine at elevated temperature. I. Corrosion behavior

N Priyantha, P Jayaweera, DD Macdonald… - Journal of …, 2004 - Elsevier
Alloy 22 in acidified, NaCl brines over wide ranges in temperature and composition is
characterized by high interfacial impedance, thereby illustrating its high corrosion
resistance. The impedance data are shown to transform correctly in the complex plane, via
the Kramers–Kronig (K–K) relations, thereby demonstrating that the system conforms to the
constraints of Linear Systems Theory (LST). The interfacial impedance (and the polarization
resistance, Rp) initially increased with applied potential, within the passive range, due to the …
