Anaerobic digestion and co-digestion of slaughterhouse waste (SHW): influence of heat and pressure pre-treatment in biogas yield

MJ Cuetos, X Gómez, M Otero, A Morán - Waste management, 2010 - Elsevier
Mesophilic anaerobic digestion (34±1° C) of pre-treated (for 20min at 133° C,> 3bar)
slaughterhouse waste and its co-digestion with the organic fraction of municipal solid waste
(OFMSW) have been assessed. Semi-continuously-fed digesters worked with a hydraulic
retention time (HRT) of 36d and organic loading rates (OLR) of 1.2 and 2.6 kgVSfeed/m3d
for digestion and co-digestion, respectively, with a previous acclimatization period in all
cases. It was not possible to carry out an efficient treatment of hygienized waste, even less …

Anaerobic digestion and co-digestion of slaughterhouse wastes

S Castellucci, S Cocchi, E Allegrini… - Journal of Agricultural …, 2013 - agroengineering.org
The use of renewable energy is becoming increasingly necessary in order to address the
global warming problem and, as a consequence, has become an high priority for many
countries. Biomass is a clean and renewable energy source with growing potential to
replace conventional fossil fuels. Among biomass, residual and waste ones represent a
great resource for energy generation since they permit both to eliminate a possible waste
and to produce energy. In the present work, the case of slaughterhouse wastes (SHWs) has …
