This paper proposes a new approach for modeling connection makeup, using a material
strain-rate dependant model. Abaqus analysis examples are presented to demonstrate the
use of the proposed modeling approach. The impacts of strain rate on connection structural
integrity and sealing capacity are discussed. The paper demonstrates that the proposed
