Abstract
This was a prospective study of the prostate volume of 200 Nigerian adults done at the Radiology department of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. This study was done to determine normal volume of the prostate gland to provide a local reference data for adults between 20 and 50 years. Participant selection was by random sampling of apparently healthy adults between 20 and 50 years over a duration of 9 months. Consecutive ultrasonic measurement of prostate volume was taken and data analysis was done using statistical package for Social Sciences. Mean prostate volume was 19.620 cm3. The mean prostate v. 620cm3) in asymptomatic subjects recruited in this study provides a normogram for the locality, and correlates with precious studies done. The value derived from this study may serve as a reliable assessment of the degree of suspected prostatic hyperplasia and carcinoma
