The accuracy of CFD simulations strongly depends on the mesh resolution and quality. In
complex flow problems, it is difficult to determine the adequate mesh resolution a priori. In
such cases, an initial mesh is used to get an estimate of the flow solution, and the mesh is
adapted using a posteriori error indicators. In order to expedite the numerical computation,
the resolution needs to be applied in a local fashion, which can be achieved by locally
modifying the mesh elements, based on a size field. Traditionally, scalar error
