Abstract
Underground mining operations are inextricably linked to negative impact on the environment. This impact, in particular, may result in the formation of mining damages (various types of terrain deformation) and pollution of the environment. It can also results in long-lasting changes in the landscape and environment. Sustainable management of areas degraded by mining exploitation requires an accurate stocktaking. Authors of this article presented the example of usage of GIS technology to develop a model of supporting the process of stocktaking of areas degraded by mining exploitation. In addition, the article pictures the results of researches on the basis of which the acquired data were used to develop sample thematic layers in GIS software. In this way, the authors created a prototype database of spatial data, which is a source of information for examples of spatial analysis. The information collected in the database can be used in many sectors. This presented example is dedicated to the analysis of the degree of degradation of the land surface by mining exploitation. Such analyzes are the first step to create advanced projects of remediation of post mining areas.
