Abstract
Large cardamom (Amomum subulatum Roxb.) is an important cash crop mainly cultivated in the eastern hilly region of Nepal. In recent years, its production is decreasing rapidly and if it continues, it will lead to many social, economic and environmental problems. The reduction in productivity of this crop is due to the various climate-induced factors which are directly or indirectly related to the current climate change. Therefore, it is necessary to devise and implement climate resilient strategy for this crop to reduce the climate change impact and vulnerability.
This research is an attempt to explore the current status of large cardamom production and major climate induced hazards that are impacting the production of large cardamom in eastern hill of Nepal. The study also made the assessment of the vulnerability of farmers and proposed respective adaptation measure. This study was carried out in Sankhuwasabha, Nepal from August 2010 to January 2011 using different community based participatory tools, secondary information and statistical analysis.
