Abstract
This study proposed an explanatory model analyzing whether leisure habits correlate with the quality of life when mediated by the satisfaction of basic psychological needs. The participants in the research were 133 individuals with physical disabilities and wheelchair users. This is an inferential cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. The data were analyzed by means of the structural equation model. The results showed high correlations in the hedonistic and playful leisure variables with quality of life when mediated by the satisfaction of basic psychological needs. Significant associations with instructive leisure were not found. It was concluded that some dimensions of leisure habits, when mediated by the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs of autonomy, competence, and belonging may promote the quality of life for wheelchair users.
