In this paper, the effects of turbulence and radiation modeling are tested to aid low-voltage
switchgear type testing according to IEC 60439. Starting from the experimental testing setup,
a numerical 3D simulation model is created for the electric heating of the conductors based
on the electric skin effect. The airflow results from the inlet fans and the buoyancy at the
conductors. Computed temperatures are compared to experimental measurements. A main
focus is given on the effects of the numerical turbulence approximations.
Abstract
In this paper, the effects of turbulence and radiation modeling are tested to aid low-voltage switchgear type testing according to IEC 60439. Starting from the experimental testing setup, a numerical 3D simulation model is created for the electric heating of the conductors based on the electric skin effect. The airflow results from the inlet fans and the buoyancy at the conductors. Computed temperatures are compared to experimental measurements. A main focus is given on the effects of the numerical turbulence approximations.
