A list of medicinal plants used in Jordan is presented following interviews with bedouins,
villagers and local people, and surveys of regional Floras. A total of 363 species of vascular
plants belonging to 263 genera and 86 families are listed in alphabetical order of family
name, with Arabic names and major medical uses. Most plants are wild plants found in
Jordan with the exception of a few cultivated and well known examples.

ABSTRACT A list of the medicinal plants in Jordan is prepared for the first time. It consists of
363 species of vascular plants belonging to 263 genera and 86 families. The taxa recorded
are wild plants that occur in Jordan, except few cultivated and well known to the people in
the country. The total number of the species listed comprises around 20% of the total Flora.
