Abstract
Gambusia fish (Gambusia affinis) a found in the Wangi River contaminated with cadmium (Cd) waste. The ability of gambusia fish to survive in polluted conditions is an important factor. Observations related to the impact of cadmium waste on gambusia fish is done. The purpose of this study is to determine the clinical symptoms and detect metallothionein proteins that bind heavy cadmium metals in the gill of Gambusia affinis fish. Fish samples used have gone through the domestication process and the removal of the effect of Cd waste. Then the fish adapted in the laboratory, exposed to Cd by the 96-hour LC50 concentration. The observation of clinical symptoms obtained is the presence of differences in behavior after exposure to Cd. Fish exposed to high concentrations experience the most clinical symptoms compared to other exposures and controls. While the results of MT protein detection showed no significance different between all treatments (P> 0.05). Gambusia fish can carry out bioavailability processes for the accumulation and absorption of Cd in the body.
