Abstract
The study determined computer aided design skills need of brick/block laying and concreting craft students for employment in building industry in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Three research questions were developed and three null hypotheses also formulated and test at. 05 level of significance in consonance with the purpose of the study. The population for the study comprised two hundred and twenty five (225) respondents; twelve (12) brick/block laying and concreting craft teachers and two hundred and thirteen (213) building experts of indigenous construction firms in Rivers State. The researcher used the entire population of 12 for the brick/block laying and concreting craft teachers, since the population was manageable; whereas use a purposive sampling technique to select forty-four (44) building experts in Rivers State. The instrument for data collection was a 25-items structured questionnaire developed on 5-point Likert scale. A total of 56 questionnaires were administered and retrieved which was used for data analysis. The questionnaire was validated by three (3) experts and tested for reliability using the Cronbach Alpha reliability co-efficient (a), which yielded 0.79. The data collected was analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-ratio statistics which led to the following findings: that the computer aided design skills identified in this study are needed of brick/block laying and concreting craft students for employment in building industry in Port Harcourt, Rivers State with no significant difference in the groups’ responses. Recommendations made amongst others are government should provide and equip computer laboratory in all the technical colleges in Rivers State for students to use since not all parent can afford purchasing it for their children and government through the school administrators should make available various categories of softwares that will equip students with the needed computer aided design skills to be employable in building industries
