Abstract
The possibility of the cultivation of S. officinalis in the Thrace region of Turkey was investigated. Seeds of S. officinalis were sown in fields at 3 plant densities (20 × 25, 20 × 45 and 20 × 70 cm) and 3 doses of N applied (0, 80 and 160 kg/ha). Tabulated data on the mean values for fresh and drug herb yields, drug leaf yield and essential oil percentage for the different levels of N and plant densities. The overall mean values obtained from 3 years for all the measured characteristics are also presented. The results showed that sage, which is a native plant of the region, is suitable for commercial cultivation. Plants performed best under the 25 cm row spacing and 160 kg/ha nitrogen application.
