Detection of metallo-β-lactamase–encoding genes among clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in northwest of Iran

The prevalence of metallo-β-lactamase (MBL) production among 104 clinical isolates of
Pseudomonas aeruginosa from northwest of Iran was investigated by phenotypic and
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods. Thirty-nine (37.50%) of isolates were MBL
positive by double-disk synergy test. Results of PCR revealed that 18 (17.31%) and 6
(5.77%) imipenem nonsusceptible isolates of P. aeruginosa carried blaVIM and blaIMP
genes respectively, while 92.4%(62/67) of isolates contained class 1 integron gene. This is …

Detection of metallo-β-lactamases-encoding genes among clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a tertiary care hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal

M Acharya, PR Joshi, K Thapa, R Aryal… - BMC research …, 2017 - Springer
Objectives This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of metallo-β-lactamases
(MBLs) producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa in imipenem-nonsusceptible isolates and to
detect MBL-encoding genes among MBLs-positive isolates. Results Metallo-β-lactamases
production was detected in 68.6% isolates of P. aeruginosa with reduced susceptibility to
imipenem. The bla VIM-2 gene was detected in 75% isolates and bla IMP-1 was detected in
25% isolates. All MBLs-positive isolates were multidrug resistant with a high level of …
