A new class of chemosensors (L1-L3) based on sequential coupling of 2, 3-
diaminomaleonitrile, 4-formyl-1-substituted phenyl-pyrazole-3-carboxylate and 2-hydroxy-1-
naphthaldehyde through imine linkages were successfully designed and synthesized. The

Abstract
A new class of chemosensors (L1-L3) based on sequential coupling of 2,3-diaminomaleonitrile, 4-formyl-1-substituted phenyl-pyrazole-3-carboxylate and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde through imine linkages were successfully designed and synthesized. The synthesized chemosensors showed quick colorimetric response with excellent selectivity and sensitivity towards detection of Mn2+ and Zn2+ ions in preference of other cations. Along with this, chemosensors also serve as fluorescent turn ‘off’ and turn ‘on’ switch for detection of Mn2+ and Zn2+ ion respectively. Analytical characterization were evaluated using UV–vis titration, fluorescent titration and Job’s plot methods which revealed that sensor interact with Mn2+ and Zn2+ ion in 1:1 and 1:2 binding stoichiometry respectively.
