An experiment was conducted in two consecutive seasons under polyhouse conditions to find out the best planting time of tulip in Kashmir valley. Healthy and uniform bulbs of tulip cv. Apeldoorn were planted at 15 days intervals starting from 15 October to 15 January thus making 7 treatments. Planting time significantly influenced the vegetative, floral and bulb production characteristics. In general, late planting significantly increased the bulb survival percent but delayed flowering by about 12 days at every 15 days of late planting. The maximum scape length, wrapper leaf area, vase-life and bulblets weight per plant were recorded under 15 November planting followed by 30 October planting in both the years. Tulips planted on 30 October resulted in the maximum stem thickness and tepal diameter followed by 15 October planting. The 15 November planting was found to be most suitable to exploit the better growth and production of flower and bulb of tulip under polyhouse conditions followed by 30 October planting.
