Abstract Interviewed 60 23-59 yr old insulin-dependent diabetics attending a diabetic clinic,
administered the 16 PF to 47 of these, and conducted interviews with a close relative in 51
cases. Overall results characterize Ss as insecure, tense, conventional, and glum. Fear of
vascular complications and severe hypoglycemia were common sources of anxiety in both
the diabetics and their relatives. Poor acceptance of diabetes tended to be associated with
