Abstract
An assessment was made of the energy efficiency, benefit:cost ratio and labour requirements for the production of raisin in organic and conventional farms in Turkey. The data were gathered from 44 organic farms and 38 conventional farms. Total energy requirement under organic raisin farming was 22 204.94 MJ ha-1 whereas 28 903.30 MJ ha-1 was consumed under conventional farming system. Organic raisin production was 23% more energy efficient than conventional production. The labour input per hectare was higher for organic systems compared with conventional production. The share of renewable energy input use in the total energy input was 23.92% in organic production and 6.27% in conventional production.
