All children have the right to a safe environment and the right to access quality education. A safe environment is the platform for all children to strive toward success to achieve fundamental milestones for their development. This environment must be inviting, be conducive to teaching and learning, and accommodate the principles of inclusivity. The Nigerian National Early Childhood Education Curriculum articulates these basic needs for all children irrespective of their socioeconomic status. However, the reality in Nigeria is far from policy expectations. This chapter discusses the child-friendly school environment, the importance of early childhood education, and elements of the early childhood environment against the backdrop of Nigeria. Furthermore, this chapter presents the fundamental elements that are required to ensure that the learning environment of the child is child-friendly and conducive to teaching and learning. This is done through a discussion of the physical, psychosocial, creative, and healthy learning environment needed to promote the holistic development of young children. In conclusion, recommendations are provided to ensure the creation of a conducive learning environment in Nigeria.
