Manuel Puig's Kiss of the Spider Woman challenges the critical understanding of male
femininity and homosexuality. I argue that the privileging of homosexuality has meant that
the study of femininity has been insufficient; as such, this essay draws on Eve Kosofsky
Sedgwick's notion of" effeminophobia" and studies Molina's femininity.
