Gender dysphoria disorder has passed a long journey in the history of psychiatry and psychology. The symptomatology, diagnostic criteria and intervention methods of this disorder was related to the concept of gender identity and the advances of medicine. Each of biological, psychological and socio-cultural approaches was stressed on different variables on the emergence of gender dysphoria disorder. Literature showed that individuals with gender dysphoria disorder have other psychological problems such as anxiety, depression and familial maladjustments. Some individuals have personality disorders or maladaptive personality characteristics too. While gender variation is the only solution to helping people with gender dysphoria but social persuasion, inclination of individual and family for surgery, and adjustment with new gender identity during post-operation needs to application of various psychological interventions.
