Abstract Pr 3+ doped Na 3 La 9 O 3 (BO 3) 8 (Pr 3+: NLBO) crystals were grown by the top-
seeded solution growth (TSSG) method. Powder X-ray diffraction results show that the
introduction of Pr 3+ does not change the structure of NLBO crystal. Pr 3+ concentration was
determined to be 1.21× 10 21 ions/cm 3 by inductively coupled plasma optical emission
spectrometry. The refractive index was measured by using the minimum deviation method,
