The link between economic reform and health, particularly the health of children, has been
the subject of recent policy debate. Although economic reform remains a major feature of
African policy-making, there has been very little empirical research on the impact of this
reform on the health of children. This dissertation examines the health and mortality of
children in Ethiopia during a period of transition from a socialist-oriented economy towards a
market-oriented one.
