Abstract
The untreated effluent from industries discharged in Noyyal river has contaminated the groundwater in Noyyal River basin, which is a tributary of a major south Indian river Cauvery, in Tamil Nadu. The study has been undertaken to assess the water quality in relation to agriculture, domestic and industrial uses. From the study area, 63 samples were collected during May 2007 and spatial distribution analyses was done for the drinking water quality parameters like “pH, Total Dissolved Solids, Chlorides, Calcium, Nitrate, Hardness, Iron and Alkalinity “. The irrigation water quality were interpreted based on Total dissolved solids, Electrical conductivity, Sulfates, Chlorides, Sodium Adsorption Ratio, US salinity diagram, Scholler’s method, Piper’s trilinear diagram. The interpretation shows that groundwater from most of the locations were unsuitable for drinking and irrigation purpose.
