The toughness and low cycle fatigue (LCF) resistance of ASSAB 709 M steel before and
after normalizing were investigated at room temperature. The normalizing process causes
an increase in plastic energy and ductility but decreases mechanical strength. The
normalizing treatment of ASSAB 709 M steel improves the LCF resistance and impact
