This chapter reviews the current state of research for the integrated membrane bioreactor (MBR) system with other technologies for wastewater treatment and help to sustain the treatment process itself. The valorization of wastewater in integrated MBR would reduce pollution and importantly open a new source of energy. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) and electrocoagulation were found to be effective for wastewater treatment and reuse as they are able to produce a high quality of effluent. Integrated MBR with anaerobic digestion is considered the "zero" concept for MBR, targeting the effective treatment of wastewater and recovery of energy and materials. The combination of the MBR-microbial fuel cell (MFC) system offers a convincing option for wastewater treatment and energy recovery. The interesting engineering characteristics of integrated MBR have great potential to play an important role in wastewater treatment for sustainable development. The continuous effort in academia and industry will contribute to the emergence of integrated MBR in the treatment and valorization of wastewater.
