The Internet of Things (IoT), a component of cyber physical systems, has been used in numerous businesses throughout this advanced era of industry 4.0. The development of IoT has become a common trend across industries. Many have already embraced the technology and benefited from it. However, just a few applications have been adopted in the construction industry yet. The application of IoT in the construction industry is investigated in the current study using a bibliometric review. Co-occurrence analyses were used to examine patterns of research interactions in 200 academic papers, including research, reviews, and conference papers, using network visualization and other methods based on the ScienceDirect database. Additionally, it describes the most recent IoT trend in the construction industry, which is essential to fully utilize and benefit from IoT's advantages. This study demonstrates that IoT, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Blockchain Technology (BCT) and Artificial Intelligence (AR) are the main study themes and shows that construction practitioners are aware of the advantages of IoT for enhancing the effectiveness of construction projects. The study provides a better understanding of IoT in the construction industry, assisting administrators to avoid challenges and develop education-based efforts to inform construction practitioners of the concept and significance of using IoT in this industry.
